MUSALA PEAK AND DOBARSKO CHALET

The village is starting or via point of several interesting hiking trails. One of them leads to Musala peak, another interesting and long trail is to Dobarsko chalet.

Musala is the highest peak in Bulgaria and on the entire Balkan Peninsula with a height of 2 925 m, measured from the level of port Varna. Musala is in the Rila mountain, not far away from the famous resort of Borovets and about 80 km away from Sofia.

In the summer it is visited by many tourists from all over the world, but mostly by  mountaineers from Bulgaria and the neighboring countries.

On the peak was built weather station of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

The peak is one of the Hundred National Tourist Sites. There is a stamp in the weather station.

It is a legend that in clear weather you can see even the Aegean Sea. The mountains in southern Bulgaria and northern Greece are obstacle to the direct vision, and the spherical shape of the Earth makes impossible to watch such distant objects as well.

Dobarsko chalet is located in the area ​​Vadata, southwestern Rila mountain. It is a massive three-storey building with 40 beds, outside bathrooms and washrooms. There is a solid fuel boiler in the chalet. The chalet has water-supply laid on and it is supplied with electricity, the heating is stoves with solid fuel. There is a kitchen and a dining-room.
